I Tried the Concealer That's Based on Jennifer Garner's Go-To Foundation

I’ve been in the beauty industry for a decade and it has made me jaded. I look at all products and brands with extreme skepticism and rarely get pre-emptively excited about a launch. Anne Hathaway- and Nicole Kidman-used brand Westman Atelier is an exception. New products are few and far between, which allows the hype to build and ultimately, gives the brand time to formulate smart, easy-to-use, editor- and celebrity-loved products. The newest addition to its lineup is the sublime Vital Skincare Concealer I’ve been testing for a few weeks.

The Vital Skincare line is now three products strong—preceding it is the liquid foundation I’m obsessed with and a stick foundation Jennifer Garner has gone through several tubes of. This concealer comes in 16 shades, has all the benefits of its sibling products, and costs $20 less. This a medium- to full-coverage concealer that the brand says functions as an under-eye brightener and spot concealer. I would add a third which is as an all-over foundation.

I was apprehensive when I first applied the Vital Skincare Concealer—it seemed thick and chalky. But, I trusted the process which is to let it warm up on my skin for a minute before blending with a brush. I applied it to spots of redness and hyperpigmentation, and 30 seconds later it completely neutralized and hid imperfections while being undetectable from my real skin. Plus, it brightened up my perpetual Corpse Bride dark circles. Though the Westman Atelier Vital Skincare Concealer is not completely immune to wearing off on the bridge of my nose where my glasses slip up and down, it was much less severe than with similar products.

The bottle is appropriately sized for a concealer but pretty small for something that doubles as a foundation. However, it works because it is so pigmented. As a spot treatment, the wand barely needs to touch your skin to deposit enough color, and as a foundation, four swipes on each quadrant of your face are all you need.

Like all Westman products, this is equal parts a skin care formula. There are skin-plumping and wrinkle-reducing peptides, hydrating hyaluronic acid, and dark circle-blasting caffeine.
