Few beauty products are truly iconic–and within that small group, even fewer are iconic across generations. One such product is Dove’s Beauty Bars. Chances are, you and your parents (and their parents, and maybe even their parents) have scrubbed up with one of the iconic white soaps at one point or another.
So when we first heard of Dove’s Plant Milk Cleansing Bars, we were admittedly a little unsure. Could they possibly live up to the standard set by the brand’s OG bar soap? As it turns out, they definitely can—and then some. Keep reading for a full review.
Dove Plant Milk Cleansing Bars
Best for: All skin types
Uses: Daily cleansing and hydration
Star Rating: 5/5
Price: $7
About the brand: Dove offers a range of skincare, body care, and haircare products. The brand is perhaps best known for its shampoos and conditioners, deodorants, and (of course) the iconic Beauty Bar soap.
About My Skin: Dry and sensitive
My skin leans dry and sensitive, so I typically stick to fragrance-free body washes. I love scented body washes, but most leave my skin dry and itchy. It’s the same story with my overall body care routine—I gravitate toward gentle, hydrating products. (I can occasionally get away with a lightly fragranced lotion.)
The Feel: Smooth and luxurious
At first, the Plant Milk Cleansing Bars reminded me of clay—smooth, yet firm to the touch. This had me wondering if they’d really deliver on hydration. But once I lathered them up, they exceeded my expectations. The bars quickly transformed into a rich, creamy lather that felt incredibly luxurious and soothing on my skin. Unlike other bars that leave a heavy, sticky residue, these rinsed off clean.
The Results: Soft, refreshed skin
Dove’s Plant Milk Cleansing Bars come in four formulas: Coconut Milk & Sugar Lychee, Oat Milk & Berry Brulee, Macadamia Milk & Willow Lavender, and Turmeric Milk & Lemon Drop. I was excited to try them all, but reached for the Coconut Milk & Sugar Lychee and Oat Milk & Berry Brulee bars the most. These two are all about revitalizing and hydration. I incorporated them into my daily routine, using them once a day as recommended, to see if they could provide a hydrating cleanse without causing any irritation.
From the first use, my skin felt anything but dry. As I continued using this bar in my routine, I was excited to find that the scents didn’t irritate my skin at all. Instead, it felt clean, soft, and hydrated—a trifecta I don’t always experience with body washes. The scents are light and enhance my shower experience without being overpowering.
The Value: Incredible
Even with the already wallet-friendly price, Dove’s Plant Milk Cleansing Bars offer incredible value: After almost two weeks of use, I still have so much product left.
Similar Products: You have options
CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser Bar ($6): CeraVe’s Hydrating Cleanser Bar is filled with ceramides and hyaluronic acid, combining cleansing and active ingredients. Both CeraVe’s and Dove’s bars are great for dry, sensitive skin, but Dove’s stand out with their gentle scents, vibrant colors, and focus on moisture and revitalization.
Dr. Bronner’s Castile Bar Soap ($5): Dr. Bronner’s Castile Bar Soap offers eight scents (plus one unscented option) and a versatile, organic formula. That said, it doesn’t quite hit the mark for hydration or luxury, and Dove’s Plant Milk Cleansing Bars provide a richer lather.
The Final Verdict
Dove’s Plant Milk Cleansing Bars have completely transformed my shower routine. They provide a luxurious lather and are kind to sensitive skin. Since I started using them, my skin has felt more hydrated and never dried out—a refreshing change for my sensitive, dry skin. And these bars deliver high performance without a high price tag. Finding a body wash that cleanses, hydrates, and doesn’t irritate is a rare find at any price; at, under $8, it’s a treasure. I’m obsessed with these bars!
