It’s always special to see first-time winners at awards shows, and last night’s Video Music Awards was one for the pop girls. Sabrina Carpenter and Chappell Roan both took home their first moon people, as did Tyla, who flashed a pretty gemstone-encrusted manicure when accepting her award.
Tyla made a splash last night, September 11, at the 2024 VMAs in a fringed neon yellow cut-out dress from Area. The theme of her look? Color, and lots of it. The “Water” singer (who won for Best Afrobeats song) styled the dress with a green necklace, pink shoes, and a shimmery rainbow jeweled nail look.
Ornate manicures don’t have to be overly dramatic, and Tyla’s is the perfect example. Her almond-shaped manicure had a beige nude base, which was the perfect canvas for adding pops of color. Each nail was dotted with a different color of monochrome gemstones, ranging from greens to yellows and pinks. The nail look was playful and colorful, but still allowed her dress to have its moment.
Her voluminous golden curls looked stunning and showed off the different shades of caramel and chocolate brown tones in her hair. For glam, she opted for glowy, flushed cheeks and overlined glossy berry lips which she paired with fluttery lashes and black winged eyeliner.
The 22-year-old’s first VMA is bound to be one of many, but awards aside, she’s continuing on a path to be best-dressed at every event she attends (remember her sculptural “sand” dress at the Met?). Until her next big appearance, we’ll be here staying hydrated and attempting to recreate her chic gemstone mani.
