Alex Russo would definitely approved of Selena Gomez’s new manicure. Most Gen-Zers and Millennials became acquainted with Gomez through the massive Disney show, Wizards of Waverly Place, which is getting a modern spin-off featuring the old cast. October 28 was the world premiere of the new show, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, and for the occasion, the beauty founder arrived with a moody manicure and a custom red Rodarte dress.
Gomez’s nail looks have been across the board this fall. She’s singlehandedly revived old favorites (hello, lip gloss nails), donned some of fall’s biggest manicure trends, and inspired us to try-out unexpected fall hues like vampy violet. No matter the shade, she usually sticks to her same rounded-almond shapes and opts out of ornate details. The same is true for her latest, which tries on a spooky black hue.
“When in doubt, a black mani is what it’s all about,” said manicurist Tom Bachik in his Instagram post with Gomez’s new nails front-and-center. Bachik fittingly used the gel shade Black by Mia Secret to achieve the look. The black shade was topped with an extra glossy top coat to look just like a pair of patent leather boots, which is why the combination is often referred to as a “patent leather” manicure. Gomez paired the mani with lots of Messika jewels.
For the premiere Gomez rocked her new lob cut in soft, effortless waves courtesy of hairstylist Marissa Marino. Makeup artist Jenna Nicole leaned into the red carpet-approved soft makeup trend (it’s an updated take on no-makeup makeup) opting to pair long fluttery lashes and a ’90s lip look on Gomez. Pinky blushed cheeks tied everything together.
