What to Do with Your Mail While on a Trip

You’re ready to take a trip. Bags are packed, you’ve got your tickets and documents, but there’s something else you need to do before you leave home — something that will also protect you and prevent others from knowing you’re not home.

You need to contact UPS, FedEx, and the U.S. Postal Service to confirm a vacation or mail hold.

The Post Office will hold your mail for up to 30 days. UPS offers a service to hold packages at its distribution center until you return, and FedEx will put a temporary hold on deliveries for up to 14 days.

For online retailers, you can always schedule a future delivery date in advance — and you should.
