Fans of Prime Video’s The Boys are currently being required to stay incredibly patient as we wait for more news about the arrival of the show’s fifth and final season. We know that filming has officially come to an end and that series creator Eric Kripke and the rest of the team are hard at work in post-production, but a release window is still yet to be announced. Luckily for fans of Antony Starr — the actor who plays Homelander — there’s another chance to catch him on streaming ahead of the next season of The Boys. Beginning on September 19, Netflix subscribers will have the opportunity to tune in for the actor’s 2023 horror flick, Cobweb, which also features Mean Girls and Masters of Sex star, Lizzy Caplan.
2023 was a fun year for the genre, with the arrival of hits including Rob Savage’s The Boogeyman, Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise, Emma Tammi’s Five Nights at Freddy’s, and Cameron and Colin Cairnes’ Late Night With the Devil. In July, ahead of the spooky season, Samuel Bodin made his feature-length directorial debut with Cobweb, which saw Caplan and Starr appear as parents who struggle to keep a secret from their son, Peter (Woody Norman). As the young boy asks more and more questions about a mysterious and haunting presence that seems to require his help, his parents’ drive to protect him kicks into full gear and chaos ensues.
Whether it was its summer release timing or the fact that it only dropped in select cinemas, Cobweb didn’t live up to its incredible potential. The feature welcomed a digital arrival just weeks after its short-lived theatrical run, and certainly didn’t drum up the profits that Lionsgate was looking for at the box office. On Rotten Tomatoes, the title sits with a 59% critics’ approval rating, mirrored by that of a 71% audience score, reflecting just how torn viewers were about the film.
Antony Starr Will Soar in ‘The Boys’
Like many of his cast mates, Starr recently shared a message to fans of The Boys on his social media, thanking them for helping the series become the massive success that it’s been. The final season will see his character, Homelander, take over the country with his villainous supes-first mindset. He’ll return to the fold alongside other long-running favorites such as Karen Fukuhara, Karl Urban, Erin Moriarty, Tomer Capone, Jack Quaid, Laz Alonso, and Jensen Ackles.
