I’m no color analyst, but I would definitely consider Kate Hudson a spring. There’s something about those blonde waves, ya know? Or maybe the yellow dress from How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is just permanently ingrained in my head.
Anyway, I know the California girl does oh so well when it comes to warm weather dressing. That’s why her latest manicure was a shock to the system based on its winter-y energy alone. On Tuesday, February 25, Hudson showed up in spring-feeling New York City for a day of press wearing a French manicure topped with a very cold weather-coded burgundy tip.

Kate Hudson’s Moody Burgundy French Manicure
Though the manicure started off classic at the cuticle with a neutral pink shade, it never found its way to the white tip you’d expect when you got to the top of the star’s almond-shaped nails. Instead, you were met with the same red wine color that’s been popping up on red carpets all awards season. Take Selena Gomez’s recent glossy merlot manicure, for example.

Hudson’s nails were likely the work of nail artist Brittney Boyce.Though she hasn’t shared a breakdown of this look, it’s not the first time she’s utilized the color. Last November, the artist used a similar deep red for Megan Fox: CND’s Bordeaux Babe.
How to Get the Look
Not into pastels? Hudson’s deep red French is the perfect choice for goth girl spring. If you already know your way around a French manicure, the biggest thing here will be swapping your regular white tip for a deep red. If you don’t know how to DIY, that’s okay, too—we have an entire step-by-step guide for you.
And if you’re still looking for that perfect red? We can help with that, too. Chanel’s Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colour in Rouge Noir will always be a classic. You also can’t go wrong with Essie’s aptly named Bordeaux.
Don’t worry, Kate—spring is coming! And I hope that manicure sticks around to see it.
