Key Takeaways
- Miley Cyrus’s newest tattoo is the word “muse” in fine, scripted handwriting on her shoulder.
- Fans think she got the tattoo in honor of her mom, Tish Cyrus, who she referred to as her muse in a recent Instagram post.
During my first semester of college, I accompanied a new friend to a random tattoo parlor on a random weekday night to get his first tattoo. (His parents wouldn’t let him get one at home, but now we were adults and he could do what he pleased.) His choice was a smiley face with the eyes replaced by the letters MC: a nod to Miley Cyrus that her fans know quite well.
All that is to say, it’s no secret that Cyrus is a muse for many. And though that might not be the exact point of her latest tattoo, it sure feels like a fitting story.
Miley Cyrus’s Tiny “Muse” Tattoo
While the new ink is by no means Cyrus’s first (she has more than fifty tattoos all over her body), it’s pretty special and very pretty. Michelle Santana completed the piece—a tiny scripted single word, “muse,” that sits on Cyrus’s right shoulder—at Bang Bang tattoo shop in New York City and shared some behind-the-scenes peeks of the appointment via Instagram.

“Grateful to have met such a G,” wrote the artist while fans flooded the comments to compliment her fine line script.
With her long wavy hair pinned back in a claw clip, Cyrus looked right at home while getting the tattoo done.
Miley Cyrus’ Tattoo Meaning
While the singer is a muse herself, she’s also been open about the muses that inspire her. Back in April, she shared a video clip of herself singing in an Instagram post, noting that she wrote the song “End of the World” for her mama, Tish Cyrus.

“The secret of a song before it’s released is such a sacred time,” she wrote in the caption. “I am honored today to have it out in the world hopefully bringing some joy, but on this night I was singing only to the person I wrote it for. My muse, my mom.”
