‘The Chosen’s Dallas Jenkins Just Confirmed a Disappointing Detail About ‘Joseph of Egypt’

Not long after the new religious series Joseph of Egypt began filming, executive producer Dallas Jenkins has just delivered a disappointing update about the future of the show. Back during the summer, it was announced that Prime Video was working on yet another Biblical epic, Joseph of Egypt. While not directly connected to The Chosen, it’s viewed as a spiritual prequel to the show. The Chosen, which is written and created by Jenkins, tells the story of Jesus Christ (Jonathan Roumie), and Joseph of Egypt will be set during the Old Testament, and tell the story of Joseph (Adam Hashimi).

Jenkins recently sat down for an interview on The Relevant Podcast, and he was asked if he could share anything new on Joseph of Egypt. Jenkins explained what made him and creator Craig Wright want to tell this story, but before signing off, he confirmed that Joseph of Egypt will be a miniseries that consists of only one season. “We’re doing it as a miniseries, not as a multi-season show. It just felt like a good story to slot in between some of the other stories that we’re telling.” All hopes of a Joseph of Egypt Season 2 have been completely shut down.

Why does Jenkins want to tell Joseph’s story, you might ask? According to him, “There are a lot of Jesus parallels to it. The Joseph story is what brought about the law. There’s no structure yet, so they’re just experiencing their own humanity, and they’re solving problems in the worst ways.” He continued, “Moses is, in many ways, the response to the Joseph story. Joseph is who takes the people to Egypt, which is what ultimately sets up Moses’ experience of the oppression in Egypt.”

A New ‘Chosen’ Spin-Off Is Coming This Month

Near the end of last month, Collider brought you the first trailer for The Chosen Adventures, the animated spin-off series coming to Prime Video on October 17. All episodes of the 14-episode series will begin streaming on Prime Video at once, and it will even see live-action Chosen series veterans such as Jonathan Roumie, Elizabeth Tabish, and more reprise their roles as Jesus and Mary Magdalene. Paul Walter Hauser will also have a role in the show as a sheep. Jenkins is a producer on The Chosen Adventures, but the show was written by Ryan Swanson and directed by Keith Alcorn.

Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of both Joseph of Egypt and The Chosen.
